Volunteer Legal Services
The Alameda County Bar Association (Tel. 510-893-7160) and the Bar Association of San Francisco (Tel. 415-982-1600) are two examples. Most bar associations have Volunteer Legal Services Programs funded by the members and governmental support. Look for them in phone directories under the Businesses section by county.

Law libraries
Public and university libraries have extensive collections of reference works, case law and state and federal code books, as well as do it yourself books, such as the Nolo Press series.

Legal Assistance for Seniors
Assists senior citizens with a wide variety of legal problems, including conservatorships and disability planning problems. Tel. 510-832-3040.

Legal Aid
Provides primarily eviction defense services and other legal services to the extremely needy. See the Bay Area Legal Aid, Alameda County.

San Francisco Public Library
Monthly Saturday clinic at San Francisco Library (organized by the Bar Association of San Francisco. Call the Bar Association of San Francisco for dates, times and sign up procedures. Tel. 415-982-1600.

County Public Defenders
Public defenders are some of the most dedicated, knowledgeable and skilled criminal lawyers in the area. Their services are rendered at no cost to eligible criminal defendants.

County District Attorneys and Family Support Divisions
Free assistance to any person for collecting either child support or spousal support.
